Business, Professional & Real Estate: San Jose’s Retro Dome loses lease, set to close

Follow j. on   and

The Retro Dome, a well-known San Jose theater renovated and reopened in 2009, has lost its lease and will close at the end of Jan. 2013, to make way for new construction on the site. Guggenheim Entertainment, which ran the theater and has staged multiple shows there, has promised to find a new location.

Scott and Shannon Guggenheim are the team responsible for “The MeshugaNutcracker,” a popular Chanukah musical staged annually in the Bay Area. That show will receive a final benefit performance at the Retro Dome on Dec. 16, featuring musicals and stories from the original show. The fundraiser will kick off the Guggenheim’s search for a new home in the South Bay. Meanwhile, other previously scheduled Retro Dome shows will run as planned until the Jan. 31 closing date.
