The Bay Area vocal ensemble Vocolot will celebrate its 25th anniversary with a concert 8 p.m. Nov. 4 at Berkeley’s Freight & Salvage Coffeehouse. The concert will feature the four current members — including co-founder Linda Hirschhorn — as well as several former members coming in from Israel and around the country. Over the years, 22 women have been members of the singing ensemble.
The all-women a cappella group sings in English, Hebrew, Ladino, Yiddish and Arabic, performing both original works and ancient songs. To date, Vocolot has released five CDs, with its newest titled “Vocolot at 25.”
Hirschhorn has served as cantor for Temple Beth Sholom in San Leandro since 1988, and was a founding member of Kehilla Community Synagogue in Piedmont (originally in Berkeley). Her daughter, Talia Cooper, is now a member of Vocolot, along with Liz Stuart and Shana Levy.
Freight & Salvage Coffeehouse is located at 2020 Addison St., Berkeley. Tickets are $26.50-$28.50. For information, see http://www.vocolot.com.
