In chickens they trusted

Imagine leaving the shtetl, traveling thousands of miles over sea and land, and ending up in Petaluma. The logical next step? Buy a pair of cowboy boots and become a chicken rancher, of course. The story of Jews from Eastern Europe who fled the pogroms and became Northern California ranchers is told in a pair of documentaries, “A Home on the Range: The Jewish Chicken Farmers of Petaluma” and “Songs of a Jewish Cowboy.” They will screen at Congregation Beth Israel Judea, where co-producer Judith Montell will be on hand to answer questions.
