A selection of films with Jewish themes are part of this year’s Mill Valley Film Festival, the annual 11-day event that brings more than 200 filmmakers to the Bay Area.
The Israeli film “The Slut,” written and directed by its lead actress, Hagar Ben Asher, is a dark drama about a single mother and her complex love affairs in a quiet, rural community. It’s presented by the Israel Center of the S.F.-based Jewish Community Federation. Showtimes are 9:15 p.m. Thursday, Oct. 11 and 9:30 p.m. Oct. 12 at the Rafael Film Center.
In “Lore,” Australian director Cate Shortland takes the viewer to Germany immediately after the fall of the Third Reich, where a German teenager strikes a tenuous, poignant relationship with a Jewish refugee intent on helping her and her younger siblings. Showtimes are 4 p.m. Thursday, Oct. 11 and 2 p.m. Oct. 14 at the Rafael Film Center.
The Mill Valley Film Festival opened Oct. 4 and runs through Oct. 14 at the Christopher B. Smith Rafael Film Center (1118 Fourth St., San Rafael) and CinéArts@Sequoia (25 Throckmorton Ave., Mill Valley). For information or
