The Bay Area’s Odessa Holocaust Memorial was rededicated Sept. 23 at a moving ceremony attended by more than 50 people at Eternal Home Cemetery in Colma.
Other speakers included Vladimir Dreyman, a member of the committee that erected the original memorial 13 years ago; Boris Teplitsky and Vladimir Prikupets, leaders in the Odessa émigré community; Alexander Volovik, at whose initiative the original monument was removed for cleaning, restoration and relocation to increase its accessibility and visibility; and Samuel J. Salkin, executive director of Sinai Memorial Chapel.
Sinai Memorial Chapel paid for the monument’s restoration, relocation, hardscape, benches and landscaping. — j. staff
