Romney: Israeli-Palestinian conflict ‘unsolvable’

Follow j. on   and

Mitt Romney told fundraisers in a private meeting that the Israeli-Palestinian conflict was “unsolvable” and that his strategy would be to “kick the ball down the field.”

“I look at the Palestinians not wanting to see peace anyway, for political purposes, committed to the destruction and elimination of Israel, and these thorny issues, and I say, ‘There’s just no way,’” Romney said at a May 17 fundraiser in Boca Raton, Fla., hosted by Marc Leder, a private equity manager.

A video of the private $50,000-a-plate event was released this week by Mother Jones magazine.

“And so what you do is you say, ‘You move things along the best way you can,’ ” Romney continued. “You hope for some degree of stability, but you recognize that this is going to remain an unsolved problem. We live with that in China and Taiwan. All right, we have a potentially volatile situation but we sort of live with it, and we kick the ball down the field and hope that ultimately, somehow, something will happen and resolve it.”

Romney and his surrogates have otherwise tried to defend the two-state outcome within the Republican Party, and rebuffed an effort in August to have it removed from the party platform.

Another passage in the fundraising video, in which Romney says 47 percent of voters would vote for President Obama because they feel “entitled” to health care, food and housing, and that these voters do not pay income tax, has dominated headlines, leading Romney to stand by the comments while acknowledging they were not “elegantly stated.”

Meanwhile, in his Rosh Hashanah message released Sept. 13, Romney said a strong America will always stand with a strong Israel. — jta

FALSE HEADLINE: a dishonest leftist anti-Romney hit-piece - not surprising, since it is based on l

This is what comes of relying on the biased and dishonest left-wing media.

Governor Romney never said the conflict was “unsolvable”.  Actually, the full quote was excised, selectively edited, and dishonestly reported out of context.  In fact, Romney does think a peace could be possible, and said as much at the fundraiser.

Mother Jones cut out the part where Romney says that, “American strength, American resolve” will cause the Palestinians to “some day reach the point where they want peace more than we’re trying to force peace on them.”

The left-wing media’s misleading contorted “news story” is based on an illegal video obtained by Jimmy Carter’s grandson, which was “missing” two minutes.  It was then further “selectively edited” to delete the salient portion of Governor Romney’s remarks.

When one blindly rely on faux-“news” from NBC, CBS, ABC, and all the other leftist Obama-propaganda, who in turn rely on loony-left “Mother Jones”, who in turn relies on young Carter, who in turn relies on an “anonymous source”, you end up with the “Big Lie”.

In a portion which was not reported, after Romney refers to a former Secretary of State telling him that there was “some prospect” of a settlement, which Romney questioned, Governor Romney continued:

“But I always keep open:  the idea of pushing on the Israelis to give something up to get the Palestinians to act is the worst idea in the world. We have done that time and time and time again. It does not work. So the only answer is show them strength. American strength, American resolve, and the Palestinians will some day reach the point where they want peace more than we’re trying to force peace on them.  Then it’s worth having the discussion. So until then, it’s just wistful thinking.”

When the missing parts are included, everything Romney said in the available tape was entirely true.

Governor Romney is a true friend of Israel, and President Romney will definitely be.  Unlike Obama, he can be entrusted with Israel’s security, and will not allow Iran its nuclear weapons.
