The board of directors at the Contra Costa JCC announced that Judy Yudof has been elected to serve as its president.

The CCJCC will continue to operate as a nonprofit, although — devoid of programming, services and a physical location since it closed in December —  it will not operate as a membership organization for three years.

Yudof is the wife of Mark Yudof, president of the University of California system. She serves on the boards of the American Jewish Committee–San Francisco region and Contra Costa Jewish Day School. She also holds board positions with the Masorti Foundation, International Hillel and the Ziegler School of Rabbinic Studies.

The Yudofs, both native Philadelph-ians, have lived in Lafayette since 2008. They belong to Congregation B’nai Shalom in Walnut Creek and are the parents of two adult children, Seth and Samara.

In 1993, the couple were co-recipients of the Jewish National Fund Tree of Life Award. In 2002, while based in Austin, Texas, Judy became the first woman to serve as international president of the United Synagogue of Conservative Judaism. In 2006, she was appointed by President George Bush to serve on the U.S. Holocaust Memorial Museum Council.

Yudof replaces Robert Rich, who is now one of the board’s four vice presidents. The CCJCC recently approved the sale of the bulk of its property to Pulte Homes.
