The Diller Teen Tikkun Olam Awards, which traditionally have honored five California teens who have launched volunteer service projects, will expand nationally in 2013. In addition to the five Californians, five more teen volunteers from across the U.S. will be selected to receive $36,000 each from the Helen Diller Family Foundation.
“What began as my simple idea in 2007 has exceeded my wildest expectations,” said Diller, president of the sponsoring foundation, at the Aug. 20 ceremony in San Francisco. “To see these teens living so thoughtfully and with compassion for the benefit of all is truly remarkable.”
Since the program began, 30 teens have been honored and the foundation has awarded more than $1 million. For information on how to nominate a teen, visit http://www.jewishfed.org/teenawards.
