Chabon’s new adventure

Michael Chabon, author of the Pulitzer-winning “The Amazing Adventures of Kavalier & Clay” and “The Yiddish Policemen’s Union,” has a new book out Sept. 11 — “Telegraph Avenue.” Set in Berkeley and Oakland, the novel  tells the story of two record-shop owners and their spouses (both midwives) as their shop is threatened by the construction of a megastore. Exploring friendship, race and secrecy, the novel promises to be inducted quickly into the NorCal canon.

7:30 p.m. Tuesday, Sept. 11 at Herbst Theater, 401 Van Ness Ave., S.F. $22-$27. Also Wednesday, Sept. 12 at Diesel, 5433 College Ave., Oakland. Purchase of book ($27.99) necessary to attend.
