A new production of “Fiddler on the Roof” will open Oakland’s Woodminster Summer Musicals series this year. A retelling of Sholem Aleichem’s Yiddish stories about Tevye the Milkman, the show opens Friday, July 13 at the open-air Woodminster Amphitheater in Joaquin Miller Park.
theater that stars professional and amateur actors. Other shows offered later this summer include “Cats” and “A Funny Thing Happened on the Way to the Forum.”
The spectacular views and serene woodsy environment made the Oakland hills park a perfect setting for the 1,500-seat amphitheater, cascades, reflecting pool and paths that were originally built as a WPA project in 1939-40. “Fiddler” performances take place 8 p.m. July 13, 14, 15, 19, 20, 21 and 22. Tickets are $27-$56.
