The Nigunim Community Folk Chorus will host its second annual weekend retreat in August, with popular Bay Area Jewish music specialists leading workshops. The event takes place Aug. 24-26 at River’s Bend Retreat Center in Mendocino County.

Teachers and workshop leaders include Cantor Linda Hirschhorn, Yiddish dance master Bruce Bierman and Nigunim chorus leader Achi Ben Shalom. The folk chorus is composed of two groups (one meets in Berkeley, the other in San Francisco), whose repertoire includes songs in Hebrew, Yiddish, Ladino and English.
