Palo Alto–based Facebook reportedly is eyeing the purchase of an Israeli startup company — Face.com, which supports facial recognition technology, the Israeli daily Yediot Achronot reported. The deal is estimated at $100 million.

The Tel Aviv–based startup makes accurate facial-recognition software that could help Facebook users better identify people in photos. The application already is integrated with Facebook and allows users to auto-tag friends in photos one at a time or in an entire album.

As of May 31, Facebook had yet to confirm the report. However, TechCrunch reported that the purchase is “happening and is a done deal.”

Face.com would not be the first Israeli startup acquired by Facebook. Last year, the social-networking giant purchased an application based on the technology of Israeli company Snaptu for $70 million.
