The S.F.-based Bureau of Jewish Edu-cation has put together a team of educators, rabbis, therapists and other experts for Parenting Your Teen, a
51⁄2-hour conference co-sponsored and supported by about a dozen local Jewish agencies.
The keynote speaker is Denise Pope, a senior lecturer in the Stanford University School of Education and co-founder of Challenge Success. She will speak on “The Balanced Teen: Strategies for Success In and Out of School.”
BJE’s Jewish Teen Alliance organized the conference in partnership with the Jewish Community High School of the Bay in San Francisco. Organizers note that the main focus is on helping parents, and their children, navigate the teen years.
Workshops will include lectures and discussions about bullying, sex and sexuality, boundaries and communication. All will be presented within a Jewish framework. Workshop titles include “How Healthy Boundaries and Clear Expectations Support Your Child” and “Myths vs. Reality Surrounding Self-Injury.”
The conference will run from 9:30 a.m. to 3 p.m. Sunday, Feb. 12 at JCHS, 1835 Ellis St., San Francisco. The $18 admission includes a kosher lunch. Pre-registration at http://www.parenting
yourteen.eventbrite.com is preferred, but walk-ins will be accepted until the event fills up. For information, including a schedule and full list of presenters, visit http://www.bjesf.org/events_whatsnew.htm or call (415) 751-6983.
