The Jewish Response to the Energy Challenge, known by many as J-REC, will hold its 2012 Congregational Challenge Conference on Feb 12 at Etz Chayim Congregation in Palo Alto.
The two-hour event is designed to help the Bay Area Jewish community learn more about energy security and sustainability. Topics to be covered include electric cars, solar homes and home energy efficiency. Speakers include Martha Amram, CEO of WattzOn; David Afrin, CEO of First Energy Finance; Rabbi Ari Cartun of Congregation Etz Chayim, and Jonathan Axelrad of the American Jewish Committee.
The event will include the launch of a yearlong competition for members of local synagogues, inviting them to install solar panels, purchase hybrid cars and reduce overall energy use.
The conference is free and begins between 12:30 and 1 p.m. Feb. 12 with a bagel and cream cheese shmooze. Etz Chayim is located at 4161 Alma Street, Palo Alto. For more information, visit www.j-rec.org.
