A second Palestinian man was sentenced to five consecutive life sentences for the murder of five members of the Fogel family in a West Bank Jewish settlement.

Amjad Awad, 19, was sentenced Jan. 16 in a West Bank military court. He was convicted in November for the March 11 murders in Itamar, which is near his home in the West Bank town of Hawarta.

The panel of judges said it had considered giving Awad the death penalty. The judges also said in their decision that Awad “doesn’t have a fragment of regret in his heart.”

Awad and his cousin, Hakim Awad, murdered Udi Fogel, 36, and Ruth Fogel, 35, and their children, Yoav, 11; Elad, 4; and Hadas, 3 months, in a Shabbat evening attack on their home. Hakim Awad was sentenced in September to five life sentences plus five years, for a total of 130 years. — jta
