Jewish volunteers are needed to assist Dec. 14, when hundreds of people will gather at Bill Graham Civic Auditorium in San Francisco to receive much-needed services — from haircuts to dental work.

An estimated 200 volunteers are needed to join Jewish Volunteer Day with Project Homeless Connect, an annual event sponsored by the S.F.-based Jewish Community Relations Council.

Inside the vast auditorium, volunteers will assist San Francisco’s homeless population in receiving dental and vision exams, legal advice, career counseling and much more. Begun by former S.F. Mayor Gavin Newsom, Project Homeless Connect operates in close collaboration with the city’s Department of Public Health, community nonprofits, corporate sponsors and individuals to provide the homeless population with a “one-stop shop” for health and human services.

The fifth annual Jewish Volunteer Day takes place from 8:30 a.m. to 4 p.m. at 99 Grove St., San Francisco. (Volunteers need not sign up for all day; an optional reflection and Jewish learning opportunity begins at 8 a.m.) For more information or to sign up as a volunteer, contact Laura Rumpf at (415) 977-7418, or email [email protected] by Dec. 13.
