“A Man, His Wife, and His Hat,” a new play based on Jewish themes, will make its world premiere in the Bay Area. Commissioned by the AlterTheater, the play opens on Nov. 11 and runs through Dec. 4. There is a preview performance on Wednesday, Nov. 9.

Loosely based on the Jewish myth of the golem, the Lauren Yee comedy is billed as a “klezmer-inspired tale” about love and the uncovering of family secrets. Composer Daniel Savio wrote an original klezmer score for the play.

The AlterTheater presents its works in nontraditional settings. The new play will be staged in an empty storefront at 1414 Fourth St. in San Rafael. Tickets for most performances are $15-$25. For information, visit www.altertheater.org.
