New ads at local transit sites decry U.S. aid to Israel

by emma silvers, staff writer

Follow j. on   and

Bay Area commuters might get a taste of controversy with their morning coffee this week, as new ads calling for an end to U.S. military aid to Israel are posted in prominent transit stations in Berkeley, Oakland and San Francisco.

The ads, part of a year-old national campaign, depict two grandfathers — one Israeli and one Palestinian — each holding a grandchild. The text reads “Join with us. Build peace with justice and equality. End U.S. military aid to Israel,” along with a web address for the Committee for a Just Peace in Israel and Palestine. The Chicago-based organization launched the original version of the initiative there in 2010; since then, local campaigns have placed ads on buses and billboards or in transit stations in Washington, D.C., Boston, Phoenix and Albuquerque, N.M.

This ad went up at several transit sites in San Francisco, Oakland and Berkeley this week.
This ad went up at several transit sites in San Francisco, Oakland and Berkeley this week.
The new ads were posted Aug. 23 in the 12th Street Oakland, Downtown Berkeley, and Civic Center BART stations, as well as on the Muni level of the Embarcadero station in San Francisco and on a Powell Street cable car. The Northern California Friends of Sabeel, the chief sponsor of the local campaign, said the same ad will be posted next week in the 16th Street/Mission BART station in San Francisco.

The ads are co-sponsored by Jewish Voice for Peace, American Muslims for Palestine, the Middle East Children’s Alliance, and Bay Area Women in Black.

“Israel is one of the wealthiest countries in the world,” said Hassan Fouda, a NCFS member and one of the campaign’s organizers. “American aid encourages its violation of international law and moral conventions … Congress is planning deep cuts in Social Security, unemployment compensation, educational grants and other programs that help vulnerable Americans. Transferring billions of taxpayers’ money to Israel now is immoral.”

The group drew fire last December for a similar campaign that set off a heated debate about controversial ads on mass transit, when the pro-Israel group StandWithUs launched a series of counter-ads. BART eventually removed those ads on the grounds that they were offensive to Palestinians. StandWithUs replaced these with a different set of ads for the duration of their scheduled run.

A spokesman for StandWithUs

/S.F. Voice for Israel said the group will continue to speak out against “anti-Israel groups … trying to deceive the public through misleading ads.”

“Though their ads suggest they are in favor of ‘peace,’ their website explicitly calls for the elimination of the state of the Jewish people,” Dr. Mike Harris said on behalf of StandWithUs/S.F. Voice for Israel. “They actually oppose peace between a Jewish state of Israel and an Arab state of Palestine.”

“Their support of Palestinian extremists, who refuse to accept living in peace alongside a Jewish state, actually hinders the establishment of the first-ever state of the Palestinians,” he added. “Sadly, it will also encourage the enemies of peace to continue terror attacks which will claim both Israeli and Palestinian civilians as victims.”

Umm

Umm, but what about the fact that virtually the entire muslim world dislikes Israel and would eliminate it if they could do so without paying the ultimate price? Oh, I forgot, hating Israel is justified by the fact that it exists. Sorry, I forgot about that.
Israel! Now and FOREVER!

Jewish Voice for Peace. Standing with haters

Aside from the offensive ads that we’ve come to expect from the JVP/BDS cru, the part of this article that truly disgusts me is how an organization that claims to be “Jewish” ( fake Jew Gabriel Matthew Schiavone notwithstanding) can routinely form alliances with some of the most anti-Semitic organization out there. Sabeel founder Rev. Ateek is known for his use of classic medieval anti-Semitic imagery.  American Muslims for Palestine is the latest incarnation from Hatem Batzian, who has called for Intifada in America. MECA’s founding Barabra Lubin has been arrested for interrupting Jewish Community center events. And Bay Area Women in Black were the proud sponsors of Gilad Atzmon - a man who has called the burning of synagogues a “rational act”.
My Mom always told me- you are known by the company you keep.  Keep that in mind, JVP next time you wonder why the doors keep closing on you when you come to call.

Sadly, JVP does not support peace

Jewish Voice For Peace very badly wants to be seen as a rational voice, urging fairness and decency on all players in the Middle East. Unfortunately, their actions say otherwise.

Having observed JVP as they stand side by side with activists shouting for the death of Jews and the destruction of Israel, I simply don’t believe them when they say they want peace, justice, or an equitable resolution to the conflict. Rather, they have chosen sides, and that side is ‘against Israel’.

I’m not impressed by pretty signs showing hopeful grandfathers. JVP is simply another Bay Area group committed to hating Israel.

Let's consider a few simple facts

Let’s consider a few simple facts, at a moment when Hamas is pelting Israel, Hezbollah is rattling it’s weaponry and position within the government of Lebanon, Syria is is undergoing a rebellion and brutal authoritarian crack down, and Fatah has announced intentions of declaring unilateral statehood while rejecting peace with Israel, the “Jewish Voice for Peace” focuses microscopically ONLY on Israel and the tired, old “land for peace” formula. The Palestinians have made it quite clear that the Arab-Israeli Conflict is not an economic or territirial conflict, but rather an existential conflict.  We might only wonder what motivates these “Jewish Voice for Peace” but really only “Jews, when they bash Israel in public” folks when, time after time, it’s been shown that a policy of appeasement in thin hopes of satiating greedy tyrannies and achieving “peace”, has never worked in the history of mankind. Let’s ponder a new approach rather than “land for peace”, how about “peace” FIRST,for perhaps five years, and then final terms can be discussed?  These ads in B.A.R.T. only serve to mis-portray the Arab-Israeli Conflict and mislead the Bay Area public.

Don't Let SWU Lies Scare You

Any “moderate” folks out there who’d prefer some facts instead of racist rhetoric?  For starters, check out the websites of the organizations sponsoring these Ads.  See whether StandWithUs director Michael Harris tells the truth when he asserts that the Sabeel website “explicitly calls for the elimination of the state of the Jewish people.” You won’t find it folks, because he’s lying.  Just like all the SWU regulars who swamp J comments and scream “anti-semitism” whenever the subject of Israel’s injustice toward the Palestinian people is raised.  They want to keep us scared instead of ethical.  Don’t let them get away with it.

Friendship is Terrifying for SWU

Oy. If you listen to Michael Harris and the Stand With Us crowd, you’ll think the grandpas in the Ad want to destroy us. One grandpa is Jewish Israeli Professor Jeff Halper, the founder of Israeli Committee Against Home Demolitions (ICAHD).  ICAHD rebuilds Palestinian homes destroyed by the Israeli military to make way for Jewish-only settlements,  The other grandpa is Salim Shawamreh, a Palestinian whose family home has been destroyed four times, and rebuilt with the help of ICAHD each time.  The two men are friends.  What a terrifying state of affairs for SWU!

"Some folks grow older and wiser..."

“Some folks grow older and wiser, while others just get older and remain ignorant.”  Among the single most paternalistically, casually racist, yet un-spoken Bay Area political position is that everyone must naturally think and feel exactly like “progressive” Bay Area people, even the “Palestinians.Rather actually learning about the Arab-Israeli Conflict, perhaps discuss it over decades with actual Israeli-Arabs, Jordanians and “Palestinians”, these “progressive” Bay Area folks silently but arrogantly asserting that “they know what’s best” for the “Palestinians. When they use condescendingly racist phrases about Arabs, like “the Arab street will explode in anger”, it is as if thee “progressives” view the “Palestinians” as unable to rationally control their violent emotions like others.  It is similarly condescendingly racist for these “progressives” to attempt to relieve the “Palestinians” of the consequences of their choices and actions. The depth of this “progressive” arrogance and racism is demonstrated by the complete lack of any facts or truth in support of their Anti-Israel obsessive focus on the only Jewish State, even in the above comments.

Look up "useful idiot" in dictionary and find a pic of gitelsura

i don’t know specifically what Mike Harris said about Sabeel and i don’t really care either cause i know for myself what Sabeel is all about. like every other terror apologetic far left group they work to undermine Israel’s existence regardless of what ever their official charter states. pardon the cliche but actions do speak louder then words and if i may add, to the informed individual it’s not hard to read between the lines when it comes to Sabeel. as for that stupid poster, so what if it has some leftist Jewish Israel guy in it! there’s no shortage of Jewish useful idiots out there (JVP case and point). “Jews” like that aren’t really Jewish for the simple fact that the liberlism of today is their religion. these aren’t self “hating Jews” what they are is narcissistic idiots that are more in love with the idea of being “so hip and counterculture” than anything else.

Do they complain about US aid to PA and Egypt

We also spend billions to support Egypt, Gaza and the Palestinian Authority. Unlike the grateful Israel these entities hate and disparage America. Do the Sabeel people have problem with that Arab support by us or is it only they do not like helping Israel?

a country we’ve been giving over 3 billion dollars a year too apparently unknown to American tax payers for bin laden’s room and board and porno collection. you never hear leftist morons like gitelsura complain about that. cause in their “progressive” world the U.S. and Israel are always at fault for everything where as tyrants, thugs and terrorists are either innocent bystanders and oppressed people.

Racist Rhetoric?

For gitelsura and his/her Sabeel/JVP pals, when you scream “racist rhetoric,” don’t you somehow miss the calls of your Palestinian pets Fatah and Hamas for the liquidation of Jews in Israel?

Somehow, your ideological stance trumps your ability to see real racism. But then again, your ignorance is far more than borderline…

Fact Checking

I attended the Sabeel Conference , and no, there was nothing at all in the conference that indicated that they accepted the existence of Israel as a Jewish state.  It was disturbing weekend of very un-Christian Israel bashing.
If you spent three minutes on the Internet gitelsura you would have learned that Mike Harris is a volunter with, not the “director” of the grassroots organization Standwithus, which explicity endorses a two state solution in the region.

Do you want to see a real organization devoted to peace in the Middle east?  Check out
http://www.realpartnersrealpeace.com/  Or try http://www.onevoicemovement.org/

And recognize now that JVP, Sabeel, and Women in Black exist simply to provide cover for anti-semites and those working for the destruction of Israel.  They are Wolves in sheeps clothing, providing cover for anti-Semites

Sabeel promotes one-state solution

gitelsura writes:
“See whether StandWithUs director Michael Harris tells the truth when he asserts that the Sabeel website “explicitly calls for the elimination of the state of the Jewish people.” You won’t find it folks”

Yes you will. The Sabeel web site says:
“Indeed, the ideal and best solution has always been to envisage ultimately a bi-national state in Palestine-Israel ... one state for two nations and three religions”

That’s code for “eliminating the State of Israel”

Anti-semites and self hating Jews

The picture of two grandfathers holding grandchildren in their lap brings tears to my eyes. So nice, so bucolic. The Arab grandkid after the photo-shoot, will go to a Hamas organized brainwashing course, how to become a shaheed and how to kill the kufar, generally and the yahood particularly. How come, there is no boicotting of Hamas, Hezbollah or other “peacefull” Palestinian groups?

Heads up to all freinds of Israel about Solano Stroll festival this 9/11

it looks like it’s going to be a rogue’s gallery of cover organizations for anti-Semites who will have booths there. they include JVP, Sabeel, Tikkun magazine(the vile michael lerner)and J street. although one could argue that J street is probably more stupid then being anti-Israel per say. it’s also possible although not confirmed at this time that the Israel bashers will have a pro-palestinian contingent in the parade like they did last year. if you attend next month be sure to give them all piece of your mind. and be sure to check out Youtube afterwords i suspect some interesting videos may surface from the festival.

Why worry

I don’t know why some of you, no most of you, are worried about these well done billlboards.
After all, you and the rest of the Israeli Lobby own our Congress so it isn’t likely that anyone in our bought and paid for Congress would dare to cut off military aid to their favorite country, Israel. In fact, if it came to a showdown between Israel and the US I have no doubt that both the Congress and the posters here would choose their favorite country, Israel,  instead of the U.S.

If it walks like a duck, and talks like a duck, then it’s a duck.

JVP walks like an enemy of Israel, it talks like an enemy of Israel, it consorts with and supports enemies of Israel.  JVP, no matter how hard and long they insist on lying about it, are enemies of Israel.

Their claim to be part of the Jewish community is correspondingly fraudulent.

Where was it written

I don’t know where it was written that every Jew in the world has to support Israel especially when they flaunt international law and oppress another people, a people who bore no responsibility for the European anti-semitism that lead a handful of European Zionists to decide that since Europe didn’t want Jews (I wonder why?) they would go and take the land from the Arabs of Palestine.

Whether or not some posters like it, there are more and more Jews in the world who are looking with a jaundiced eye at the state that says it is their “homeland.”

Many of us once supported Israel but Israel has forfeited that support especially as it becomes more and more a racist theocracy, as it continues to build settlements, each and every one illegal under international law, and as it continues to oppress the Palestinian who have become the victims of victims..

Speaking of useful idiots, welcome back Janice!

how the hell are ya!? speaking of victims Janice, the assad regime has murdered another 8 people today (a slow day for the regime actually) make the grand total of assad’s syrian blood bath well over 2200 people according to NPR today. and if that isn’t good enough, a car bomb killed 18 people in Nigeria today as well. and it seems that the party in libya is still carrying on as people in nearby egypt call for the death of all Jews. plus, despite the “cease fire” rockets are still coming down in Southern Israel. all that in one day by all your islamonazi friends. and here’s the kicker, iran’s so called president called Israel “a cancer cell” today and reiterated his call to destroy Israel. i guess he thinks all that today is Israel’s fault some how. gee, who does that sound like janice? it turns out gaddafi has a big time crush on condi rice but i’m going to introduce you too to him instead as soon as i can find him. you two would be perfect together!

One-State Solution

Zvi has a point regarding interpreting a “one-state solution” as eliminating the Jewish state of Israel.  Under a BINATIONAL one-state solution, the state would no longer be a “Jewish state”, but it would continue to embrace a Jewish homeland.

A one-state solution was also proposed by such Jewish luminaries as Martin Buber, Judah Magnes, Hannah Arendt and Albert Einstein.  Would Michael Harris also condemn these persons as “anti-semites”?  A one-state solution is increasingly seen as the ONLY solution, since Israel’s Jewish-only settlements built on Palestinian land in the West Bank make a two-state solution impossible.

I wonder how you all would feel about America being a “Christian” state, as some conservative evangelicals so passionately advocate.  (The very evangelicals who are such good friends of Israel).

P.S. to Janice.  Rock on!
The few racist buffoons who dominate J’s Comments page refuse to think, but just keep on name-calling.  So they’re hopeless.  But our message may get through to others.

Speaking of venal roisenburg...

Tsvi Misinai claims that nearly 90% of the Palestinian people living in Israel proper and the occupied territories are of Hebrew descent (with the percentage among the population of the Gaza Strip being higher than 90%)... see http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Tsvi_Misinai#Proportion_of_Hebrew-descended_Palestinians

My personal theory is that the true anti-semites are the ones dehumanizing the Hebrew-descended Palestinians. Their venality has no end and not once you see them recognize that Palestinians are equal human beings worth of equal rights to Israeli Jews. Their rhetoric is very similar to that of the Nazis and very few of them are genetically Hebrews.

To Sol who fears the truth

Criticizing Israel by no means implies condonint what is happening in Syria or Nigeria or other places in the world where killing happens all too easily.

The difference is that it is Israel to which the US gives massive military aid, aid that is used to slaughter thousands in Gaza and to maintain the brutal occupation of the West Bank..

The difference is that Syria and Nigeria are not close US allies sucking up our tax dollars and our bought and paid for support in Congress.

I can’t remember the last time when Assad or the president of Nigeria came to the US to speak to Congress and received 29 standing ovations, more than any US president has received.

Those members of Congress knew what they had to do and they did it. The Congress looked more like a meeting of the Knesset.

I have no sympathy for the actions of many Arab countries just as I have no sympathy for those who support and partake in Israel’s brutal occupation.

You can keep bashing those of us who do not stand with Israel as it is. You can keep making your stupid comments but that will not change anything. You are a supporter of oppression. You are a supporter of the growing fascism in Israel. You would support anything that Israel did up to and including the murder of every Palestinian man, woman and child.

I, on the other hand, want peace and justice for both peoples. That means either a bi-national state or a Palestinian state on all of the land Israel occupied in 1967.

If Israel continues along the same path it has been on since 1967 I foresee nothing but trouble. You can’t oppress a people for decades and expect to live happily ever after.

You are right to call Sol Rosenberg a buffoon. He only knows how to throw out stupid comments that he thinks are funny but are really idiotic. I guess that his good friend in bufoonery, Dan Spitzer, hasn’t found this article yet. He is a master at the vile comments, comments that make the dull Sol Rosenberg tame by comparison.

Too bad that these two and certain others are so unwilling to see what Israel is doing. So unwilling to challenge the growing racism and fascism in Israel. So unwilling to speak out against oppression. if that oppression is being committed by our tribe. But that is what Israel has done to many Jews. It is very sad.

Ignore Janice

Janice is back with her anti-semitic pronouncements.  Yet she fails to acknowledge the main impediment to peace—the failure of the palestinians (and many of the arab nations) to accept Israel’s right to exist as an independent nation. Look what happened in 1948, Israel’s neighbors set out to destroy her and this has been going on until today. Janice and her other anti-Israel buddies ignore this fact and go on ranting and raving how evil Israel is.  We gave Gaza back and look what has happened. Israel will not commit suicide in order to appease these ignorant people like Janice.
It would be wise for Janice to learn some of the facts before she runs her mouth again

Are Israelis anti-semitic?

There are many Israelis who feel just as I do. They protest the demolition of Palestinian homes. They protest the occupation. They protest the second-class status of Israel’s Palestinian population. They protest Israel’s ethnic cleansing of the Palestinians of Arab East Jerusalem.

I guess that most of you who are posting would call these Israelis “anti-semitic.” Wouldn’t you?

It is time to stop your calling of those who oppose what Israel is doing “anii-semitic.”  I guess then that you would call anyone who opposed what the U.S. has done or is doing “anti-American.”

I demonstrated against the Vietnam War along with thousands of other Americans. By your standards that would have made me “anti-American.” I opposed and still oppose the horrors that the US wreaked on Iraq. I guess that also makes me “anti-American” in your eyes.

Because I oppose what Israel is doing does not make me either “anti-semitic” or “self-hating” in anyones eyes but only in the eyes of those who refuse to see and understand and want to throw out epithets.

And, yes, “proud Israeli”, I know the facts. I was around when the state of Israel was proclaimed. My dad raised thousands of dollars in 1947 for what two members of the yishuv told him would be a bi-national state. I remember when in the early 1950s several Israelis visited my dad who was a member of the Jewish Community Center to tell him of their dilillusionment with the state that they saw as racist. Those Israelis were right then and they are right now.

I ralso emember my relative telling me of the role that he played as a member of the Palmach in the ethnic cleansing of the Palestinians in the north of Israel. He described how the troops came into the villages in the dead of night and at gunpoint drove them from their homes across the border into Lebanon. They weren’t even given time to put on their shoes. I asked my relative why they did this. His answer was” we wanted their land and we didn’t want them on it.” At the time I was young and didn’t realize that this was a war crime, a war crime that lead to the expulsion of the Jews from Arab countries.

You don’t kave to believe me but what I wrote has been documented by several Israeli historians such as Benny Morris and Ilan Pappe. No one has effectively challenged what they wrote. Morris today says he is only sorry that the Jews didn’t ethnically cleanse all of the Arabs. That would make us no different than any other ethnic cleansers in the world.

Benny Morris: who's the liar now janice?

I saw Benny Morris at Cal. Berkeley about 2 years ago when he was giving a lecture about his book 1948. He’s pissed off Israelies on both sides of the political spectrum for the very reason that he isn’t an extreme. He never said anything of the sort about wishing that Jews had ethnically cleansed all the arabs like you claim. your such a liar. your about as believable as assad when he promises reforms while slaughtering his own people. and your every bit as much of a disgusting anti-Semite (albeit a politically correct one) as any islamic tyrant in the Middle East. the only difference between you and iran’s so called president is that Imanutjob is at least honest about what he wants when he talks trash about Israel. but your every bit the buffoon he his and a coward to boot.

Benny Morris- Who's the Liar?

Sol the truthteller accuses Janice of lying when she says Benny Morris endorsed the ethnic cleansing of Palestinians.  Here’s the quote from Morris’ 2004 HaAretz interview:  “Not “cleansing the whole country…this was his [Ben Gurion’s]  fatal mistake,”  Asked if “…morally speaking, you have no problem with [emptying Israel of Palestinians]?”, Morris replied:  “””That is correct. Even the great American democracy could not have been created without the annihilation of the Indians. There are cases in which the overall, final good justifies harsh and cruel acts that are committed in the course of history.”
In subsequent interviews, Morris becomes increasingly open about his racism..  About the separation wall, he says: “Something like a cage has to be built for them.. There is a wild animal there that has to be locked up in one way or another.” Sounds like Morris and Sol and Dan would get along swimmingly…

dear gitelsura
well it looks like i’ve upset you and now you don’t seem to want to play with us anymore. after the taliban called on all “good muslims” to cut out Letterman’s tongue and kill him you know how he responded? he made more jokes about them on his show. should he have tried to understand their anger with him? apologized to them? or should have expressed a desire to have a dialogue with them? no ofcourse not. so why should any pro-Israel advocate out there deal any differently with the likes of janice and gitelsura then Letterman did with the filthy taliban?

To the ignorant Sol

In a 2004 interview with Ari Shavit Benny Morris stated that Ben Gurion made a mistake by not cleansing Israel of all of its Arabs.
If you know how to do it you can Google the interview but since you may be too dimwitted to do this I am pasting part of the interview.

Q. “I’m not sure I understand. Are you saying that Ben-Gurion erred in expelling too few Arabs?

A.If he was already engaged in expulsion, maybe he should have done a complete job. I know that this stuns the Arabs and the liberals and the politically correct types. But my feeling is that this place would be quieter and know less suffering if the matter had been resolved once and for all. If Ben-Gurion had carried out a large expulsion and cleansed the whole country - the whole Land of Israel, as far as the Jordan River. It may yet turn out that this was his fatal mistake. If he had carried out a full expulsion - rather than a partial one - he would have stabilized the State of Israel for generations.

Q. I find it hard to believe what I am hearing.

A.If the end of the story turns out to be a gloomy one for the Jews, it will be because Ben-Gurion did not complete the transfer in 1948. Because he left a large and volatile demographic reserve in the West Bank and Gaza and within Israel itself.

A. In his place, would you have expelled them all? All the Arabs in the country?

Q. But I am not a statesman. I do not put myself in his place. But as an historian, I assert that a mistake was made here. Yes. The non-completion of the transfer was a mistake.”

Maybe you should engage your brain before showing your lack of knowledge.

Also to help you out I put the letters Q and A before the comments

janice the creative writing pro

i can’t speak for Dan’s academic back ground but you must have gone to quite a school to learn how to write such entertaining fiction. you should get a job with al-jazeera. it’s too bad the expulsion of Jews from arab lands during 48 doesn’t seem to trouble you much. but then again when arabs victimize each other or Jews and Christians it never really bothers the radical left. but oh boy do you people get ever so vocal when Jews defend themselves and have the audacity to go so far as to win wars. on the matter of ethnic cleansing what do you think the 5 arab armies in 1948 had in mind for the Jews when they attacked nascent Israel? please janice, you and helen thomas can cry me a river over your beloved “palestine”.

Sol here you go again

Are you thiking that I made up the Benny Morris interview?
I did not and I think that you owe me an apology for calling me a liar.

I never said that I defended the expulsion of the Jews from Arab countries. Sadly that came as an aftermath of the expulsion of the Palestinian Arabs.

You and I will never agree on anything so there is no sense in our continuing this. As for Dan Spitzer I have no desire to even comment on his vile and disgusting postings that belong in the sewer along with him.

From an Israeli-American

For those who think that Israel does nothing wrong here is a report from an Israeli-American. What he writes is validated by Israeli peace groups who, I am certain, will be called “anti-semtic
by certain blind posters.

What I’ve witnessed on the West Bank

I am also a Jewish Israeli citizen but currently living in the US (dual citizenship has its advantages). My grandfather was Irgun. He readily admitted he was a Jewish terrorist fighting for Independence. In his journals and photographs you can find many dozens of episodes where not only British soldiers were killed but also innocent Arabs. He personally shot Arabs as well as prepared fertilizer bombs that were set off in Arab marketplaces to intimidate the local population. Frankly, he felt his and his fellow Irgun terrorism was justified no matter what it took to achieve a Jewish state. This rationalization ended when he participated in the Deir Yassin massacre and he promptly left Israel. Terrorism in pursuit of Independence is okay for Jews but not for others.

When I lived in Israel as well as now when I return twice a year for extended Holiday visits with my relatives, I have witnessed enough unnecessary violence and degradation by Jews in the West Bank to fill a very large book. I have seen IDF soldiers at a check point pissing on Palestinian shoes. In this instance, the Palestinian man tried to take a swing at the soldier who merely stepped back and shot the man in the chest. I watched two young teenagers near Kiryat Arba force a Palestinian family at gunpoint to get on their hands and knees and bark like a dog while a jeep full of IDF soldiers 20 feet away laughed. I have watched settlers at Bat Ayin use Palestinian sheep and goats for target practice and then have the nerve to retrieve the animals for their own feasts. I have watched settlers from Itamar cutting down Palestinian Olive trees in broad daylight with the IDF sitting in their vehicles 50 meters away watching the destruction. I have watched wholesale fondling of Palestinian women’s breasts by the IDF and armed settlers usually when the husband was present to degrade the man in front of others.

I could go on and on from my 50+ years in Israel. My entire side of the family, all 35 of them, reside in the settlements. I know settlers intimately because that is where I spend my Israeli time. To get a true flavor of the occupation I suggest you meander around the West Bank for a while and keep your eyes open. If you are a true Jew to your faith, you will be disgusted. If that doesn’t do it, go to shul in Kiryat Arba, Bat Ayin and Itamar. You will hear words of hatred that will make your hair stand straight up. Go on, and then report back to us.

Dan the mostly unknown travel writer

So I Googled you ( Dan Spitzer travel writer) and also went to Amazon. According to Amazon there is nothing from you since 1990 and one of your books is selling for the magnificent sum of one cent. It probably isn’t worth even that much.. Furthermore there is not even one review for your books. I suspect they were poor sellers and if you wrote as you do on JWeekly it would be understandable.

I suspect that you do not make a good living by your “travel writing” as do my friends who are not only traveling extensively and writing prolifically.

You, on the other hand, seem to have nothing better to do with your life other than making childish commments for anyone who does not put Israel First.

I suspect that after reading this you will be coming up with another of your sick and childish comments.

Thank goodness you are not representative of all Jews. That would really bring on anti-semitism. In fact you would be the poster boy for anti-semitism.

I got your apology right here janice . . .

. . it’s just that you can’t see any of my fingers in the comments section of an online article. as to the whole “throwing out filth” comment by janice what else are you suppose to do with supporters of terror who seek Isreal’s destruction? i guess it must be the Zionist in me too. what do you want Dan to do take you out for a drink? what’s next a moon lit walk around Lake Merritt? while we’re at it let’s sing songs around the camp fire with hamas too. i think you’ve been spending too much time in the dark room with all those chemicals.

All of Frommer's 1990 Edition of Their Guide to Mexico was Written by...

yours truly. My books, college teaching and editing have enabled me to retire in comfort.

How about you? Frankly, most “photographers” who do what you say you do live off their spouse, family or governmental handouts.

Have the integrity of conveying your last name as we Zionists have so we can examine your professional record. The betting is, little or nothing would be found other than your incessant condemnation of Israel and Jews who support it.

Of course, none of the JVP/ISM toadies who post on this site ever have the integrity to convey their surnames as one suspects they don’t wish to further embarrass themselves…

Where folks get confused

Many terribly naive Western people, like Janice, begin their thoughts on the Arab-Israeli Conflict with a major mistake in word usage. These folks have the mistaken notion that the word “Palestinian” is an ethnic or tribal designation which it is not. “Palestinian” is an Arab political stance, only assigned in 1964 by the Arab League to the Moslems (of diverse ethic backgrounds)that had left pre-state Israel. If one were to read literature from the 1700s and 1800s like Tristam’s 1865 “The land of Israel: Travels in Palestine”, the land is described as de-populated, with diverse ethnic colonies here and there often enslaved by the Effendi class or by the Bedu. In Ziff’s 1938 “Rape of Palestine”, he documents the massive, illegal, 0overland Arab immigration to pre-state Israel. The oil funded propaganda machine has convinced some folks to believe in myths rather than history. An interesting counter thought is “what would have happened to the Jews if the Arab side had won in 1948?”  Do even the most deluded JVP’ers think that today the Arabs would be in negotiation regarding the creation of a Jewish state?

ignorance is bliss

Thanks, rfaelmoshe. unfortunately people like Janice are either incredibly naive or just refuse to see the truth about Israel’s neighbors and their intentions. This matter could be solved in a very short time, if the palestinians were willing.  The settlements, pre-1967 borders etc. is a smoke screen for the palestinian’s true intentions. Maybe someday Janice and her anti-Israel, pro-terrorism buddies in the bay area (JVP, WOmen in Black, MECA, Tikkun and Michael Lerner) will see the light.

Mid-East History didn't begin in 1948

Our naive Bay Area Israel Haters seem to believe that the Mid-East History began in 1948, but after the 1947 Partition Plan and before 1948 the War of Independence. Of course, that’s nonsense, but the fact that these folks have selected that date to begin, is at it’s heart , a denial of the “peoplehood” of the Jewish people and their ancestral connection to the land of Israel. It is however odd that in place of the ancient and documented history of the Jewish people, these folks want to substitute an ad hoc group of Muslims of very diverse backgrounds that happened to be in pre-state Israel under Ottoman and British occupation today referred to as “Palestinians”. Don’t these folks ever wonder why there’s no “Palestinian” history or archeology or why the Cesarea Mosque was called the “Bosnian Mosque”, or what is the “West Bank” West of, etc

Group hug all pro-Israel advocates!

Israel can’t be defeated rather by anti-Semitic leftists who masquerade as humanitarians and use economics nor by islamic radicals and their weapons of war and propaganda. Israel’s innovations, booming economy and numerous military victories against horrendous odds is proof of that. Israel has taught this lesson to it’s enemies many times before and Israel will continue to do so as long as her enemies continue to savior the bitter taste of defeat.
