Just because the office of Jewish Vocational Service is located in downtown San Francisco doesn’t mean that people need to travel to the city to get the employment help that JVS offers.

In conjunction with several local agencies, JVS also is offering its assistance in Berkeley, Walnut Creek, Palo Alto and Foster City. Moreover, JVS is ramping up some of those services.

In particular, Jewish Family and Children’s Services of the East Bay has announced it is expanding the free JVS services it offers to three days a week: Tuesdays and Wednesdays in Berkeley and Thursdays in Walnut Creek. This has been made possible through the support of the David L. Klein Jr. Foundation.

Those who attend JVS sessions have access to a variety of free services, from one-on-one sessions with an employment specialist to learning how to research a career of interest, refine career goals, network, write a résumé and interview effectively.

At JFCS in Berkeley, 2484 Shattuck Ave., Suite 210, individual sessions (appointments required) are from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. Tuesdays and Wednesdays, and a strategy-support group is being held from 10 a.m. to 12 p.m. the second Wednesday of every month (no registration needed). At JFCS in Walnut Creek, 1855 Olympic Blvd., Suite 200, individual sessions are 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. Thursdays, with strategy-support groups from 10 a.m. to 12 p.m. the third Thursday of the month.

For appointments to the individual sessions or for more information, contact Laurie Nelson at (415) 596-0056 or [email protected].

JVS also offers free job counseling at the Peninsula Jewish Community Center, 800 Foster City Blvd., Foster City. Jeanine Cowan, the Jewish Employment Network specialist at JVS, is available by appointment Wednesdays and Fridays by calling (415) 377-8763 or e-mailing [email protected]. In addition, the PJCC holds other JVS job search workshops; for more information, call (650) 212-7522 or visit www.pjcc.org.

There are also JVS workshops and individual sessions with Cowan at the Oshman Family JCC, 3921 Fabian Way, Palo Alto. Cowan is there Tuesdays and Thursdays. To make an appointment, contact her at the above phone number or e-mail address.

JVS also offers many services at its office, 225 Bush St., Suite 400, San Francisco. For more information, call JVS at (415) 391-3600 or visit www.jvs.org.
