Understanding the chromatics of Rothko. Attempting the complex construction of the Tower of Babel. Art at Oakland Hebrew Day School isn’t just an activity, it is core to our curriculum.

Our nationally recognized art specialist, Laurie Bellet, collaborates regularly with classroom teachers in ways that help bring our general and Judaic studies curriculum to life. She also blends the theory of art with its practice.

Art at OHDS includes both elements of Torah and the world around us. It spotlights historic Jewish artists who spoke to their generations and encourages each student to serve as an original creator. The unique physical space at OHDS also provides many opportunities to showcase the work. Come visit or see OHDS artists at work on Facebook by “liking” Art at OHDS.

Art at OHDS has inspired a unique gift that we will share with the broader community. OHDS recently received a Yaakov Agam original limited edition, pencil signed, silk screen, created in 1979 to honor the peace treaty between Egypt and Israel.

Generously donated from the Private Collection of Alex Adelman and Robert Ubillus Adelman, OHDS will auction off this piece in the spring. We invite visitors to come to Oakland Hebrew Day School to see both student art as well as the Agam. One can also go to www.ohds.org to see the piece.
