"If these allegations were not so ridiculous, they would be very funny," Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu's spokesman, Shai Bazak, responded.
The charge that Israel manufactured and exported sexually stimulating gum first surfaced among Islamic militants in Egypt two years ago. The stories became the basis for accusations in the Cairo press that Israel was exporting its depraved moral standards to Egypt to weaken its youth.
