Sinai to honor its outgoing director

Gene Kaufman, who served as the director of Sinai Memorial Chapel for 23 years, is stepping down this month. In his honor, the chapel’s board of directors and its chevra kadisha will have a reception for Kaufman from 4 to 6 p.m. Aug. 26 at the Jewish Community Center of San Francisco, 3200 California St., S.F.

Kaufman presided over the expansion of Sinai’s cemetery and the establishment of branch offices in Lafayette and Redwood City. He also created a bereavement program now in partnership with the Bay Area Jewish Healing Center.
