Expressive art planned for KafeKomen

Afikomen Judaica will celebrate spoken word, poetry and music featuring local and national artists at 8 p.m. on Aug. 1 at 3042 Claremont Ave., Berkeley.

The event is part of the shop’s KafeKomen series.

Local poets, writers and musicians include Lisa Klug, author of “Cool Jew: The Ultimate Guide for Every Member of the Tribe”; Natan Kuchar, a musician; Dyna Mic, a slam poet; and Brian Schacter-Brooks of Captain Zohar, a band that blends klezmer and Jewish devotional music.

The event also will feature Jake Marmer, a New York–based musician and performance artist. Marmer has appeared in New York and Jerusalem  with his band Frantic Turtle and is a regular performer at the Bowery Poetry Club in New York City. He is working on a doctorate in comparative Jewish literature.
