Canine Corps, a Jewish Family and Children’s Services program, is seeking dogs (and their owners) to visit homebound seniors in Sonoma County. Dogs can have a calming effect on people, providing a distraction from loneliness, illness or pain.

To qualify, each dog-owner team must complete a five-hour training session and become certified. Dogs must be calm and able to be around other dogs. All sizes and breeds are welcome. A six-month commitment of one to two hours per week is required. The Canine Corps already serves seniors in San Francisco and Marin.

An information session for dog owners will be held Sept.1 from 3:30 to 4:30 p.m. To sign up, contact Anita Whitehead at (707) 571-8131 or [email protected].
