A blessing for autistic kids

I was extremely thankful to read about the new program at Camp Newman, Camp Nefesh, which will be tailored to kids with autism spectrum disorders (“Newman designs ‘camp within a camp’ for autistic youth,” June 4).

My cousin, Aiden, has a severe case of autism. His parents have battled with the public school system for years, trying to get him the best education and the most human interaction possible.

Unfortunately, the state budget cuts severely lowered the quality of Aiden’s education, forcing his parents to move in an effort for their son. Knowing that there is a camp where Aiden can learn how to function more independently, interact with understanding individuals and feel a part of a community is a miracle to my uncle and aunt.

Aiden’s participation gives them hope that one day he will be able to function without them (and also gives them a few weeks to take the honeymoon they never had).

The reality of this camp brings hope to families like my aunt and uncle, who struggle every day to get equal opportunities for their children. Knowing that the Jewish community is taking a step in the right direction means a lot to them, and makes them proud to be a part of it.

Slurs, obscenities in the Gardens

According to j.’s report on the Jewish Community Federation’s Israel in the Gardens event (“Thousands gather in S.F. to celebrate Israel,” June 11), there was anxiety “about noisy and perhaps aggressive anti-Israel protests” showing up. But “beefed-up” security paid off, and “all was festive on the Western front.”

What wasn’t reported is that in front of the Gardens, a group of Jews were being viciously taunted, harassed and threatened by a gang of protesters who were indeed noisy and aggressive. They chanted slurs and obscenities, such as “Pigs … Nazis ...Whores.” Repeated threats were made against us and our families. See for yourself at http://www.muzzlewatch.com/2010/06/07.

The perpetrators were not the feared “anti-Israel protesters” but pro-Israel stalwarts under the umbrella of StandWithUs. Their targets were members of Jewish Voice for Peace and Bay Area Women in Black, who silently stood vigil to protest Israeli crimes and remind our community of our tradition of social justice.

Recently, the S.F.-based federation issued guidelines that officially marginalize JVP because of its position on Israel-Palestine. This has emboldened the thugs among us, who are becoming the public face of “pro-Israel” Jewry, and the gatekeepers to the Jewish community.

J Street on wrong path

The June 11 issue had a letter from someone who was delighted that Israel in the Gardens had a J Street booth because, according to the letter writer, it showed how the local Jewish community was open to “diverse views” on what is best for Israel and its future.

Well, I for one don’t think J Street is good for Israel in the present, nor will they likely be in the future.

In the copy of j. that came out after the Gaza flotilla fiasco, I read an article (“Groups on left, right weigh in on confrontation,” June 4) in which J Street was quoted as saying several disparaging remarks about Israel’s role in the flotilla raid.

I took that article to the J Street booth and showed them the quotes, yet they claimed that the article misrepresented them. I informed them that I had read their website the night before and that the article was pretty consistent with the “blame everything on Israel” logic they usually operate on.

At this point, the J Street booth representatives literally were at a loss for words. To the local Jewish community: Please skip the exit to J Street.

I agree with Sol Rosenberg

I am also bothered by J Street having a strong tendency to seek fault with Israel and the Jews. In that respect you effectively tend to agree with the Muslim aggressors and the left wing enemies of Israel. Self chastising is not good strategy. It invites more aggression against Israel and projects image of a defenseless Jew who is begging for mercy.

The Colonel

Carol Sanders of JVP is a pro-Palestinian propagandist supreme and any allegations she makes about those who support Israel are more than likely manufactured.

But when it comes to creating anti-Israel fiction, I must admit that Carol takes a back seat only to her husband, Colonel Sanders, who is forever accusing Israel supporters of “fowl play.”

Shall We Shed A Tear For JVP & BAWIB?

I’d like to respond to Carol Sander’s letter to the editor “Slurs, obscenities in the Gardens”. Before any of you J Weekly readers may start to shed a tear for the dreadful experience that BAWIB & JVP endured at the Gardens Festival a couple of weeks ago please bare these points in mind.
The Pro-Israel crowd that unleashed that barrage of insults all were rounding out an extremely exhausting and contentious week in light of latest anti-Israeli smear campaign known as the Gaza flotilla fiasco. No doubt they did not at all appreciate their family outing that day being marred by the appearance of people who for years now have acted as enablers to those who frequently demonize Israel such as Hamas, Iran and now Turkey.
So why so much contempt for BAWIB & JVP? Well maybe it’s because they can always be found marching side by side with those who portray Israel with Nazi Germany and proudly wave the flags of Hamas and Hezbollah. Maybe it’s because when Hamas fires rockets into Sderot BWIB & JVP calls it self defense and when Israel attempts to enforce a blockade to keep weapons away from Hamas they call that war crimes.

Poor Carol Sanders

JVP and BAWIB are notorious apologists for Palestinian terrorism.  These groups should change their names to a new umbrella group that will more accurately describe themselves—JEWS FOR THE DESTRUCTION OF ISRAEL.  Poor Carol Sanders—she has no problem with her pro-terrorist buddies yelling invective at supporters of Israel, but cannot take any criticism of her actions.Poor Carol Sanders—a martyr for her cause.

Figleafs for Terror Supporters

Organizations such as Women In Black and “Jewish” Voice for Peace, are fake peace groups that often stand next to groups that openly suport terror against Israel. These groups have held mock public Jewish religious ceremonies (“taschlich”) condemning Israel, which is as offensive as an antebellum minstrel show to many of us. It is offensive that these groups chose to protest a cultural festival, and no surprise that other people might express their offense, even if with inappropriate language. Its time that these fake “peace” groups woke up and stopped acting as fig leaves of respectibility for supporters of terror against Israel.

Offensive language at Israel in the Gardens

What was offensive was that Jews who came together with their families and friends to celebrate Israel’s existence had to be confronted with the constant drivel and hostility towards Israel by BAWIB and JVP who were harassing people entering the festival. There were some frustrated pro Israel supporters who used language and slogans that are not in any way sanctioned or condoned by SF Stand for Israel and that is unfortunate. But that Carol Sanders chooses to use it as indicative of the SF Stand for Israel position is wrong, offensive and would be laughable if it weren’t so pathetic coming from someone who supports those who advocate the destruction of the Jewish state.

Bay area Women in Black support anti-Semitism

Not that long ago, Carol and her friends in Women in Black sponsored Gilad Atzmon, a notorious anti-Semite, as a fundraiser for the International Solidarity Movement.  And yet she still wonders why she gets no respect from the local Jewish community.  Maybe respect needs to be earned, Carol, and you’ve just realized how far outside the tent of the community you’ve placed yourself.
Carol was one of 30 bitter protesters, picketing Chabad, day schools and summer camps,  while thousands gathered inside to celebrate the diversity and innovation of our community. If you want to look for thugs, Carol- look no further than your own group of protesters, some of whom have disrupted talks and events sponsored by the Jewish community, and others who have vandalized kosher products in local grocery stores.

It is a lie that StandWIthUS was involved

in taunts of the anti Semitic group demonstrating at Israel in the Gardens.
Why some people say lies that StandWithUs of SF Voice organized chants at the Left Wing Anti Jewish demonstrators.

Charges that StandWithUs is guilty, because it did not protect this anti-Semitic group are ridiculous. Neither StandWIthUs not SF Voice are interested in protecting anti-Semites that demonstrate anywhere in San Francisco or anywhere else.

Pot calling the kettle black moment for JVP

In March Jewish Voice for Peace promoted and participated in a protest at the Waldorf Astoria in NYC , where they stood proudly with people chanting “F**king Christ killers” and “Nazi Pigs” at participants attending an IDF fundraiser. (which incidently raised $20 Million for the IDF).

I’ve said it before. I’ll say it again. The only thing I have in common with JVP is that I’m also ashamed that they are Jewish

So this is really a pot calling the kettle black moment for JVP, isn’t it?

Carol, if Mohammed and Duha and Marina and Jane, all non-Jews, are marching with you, all non-Jews, why do you claim that JVP is a “bunch of Jews”?  There is more to being Jewish than holding a sign claiming to be.

Incidently, at a recent JVP planning meeting, the leadership spoke about exploting the “crazed opposition” to JVP.  So look for more provacative incidents such as this one, while JVP attempts to delegitimatize its very vocal opposition

Definition of Genuine Obscenities

What is a true obscenity? Words Carol Sanders along with her fellow JVP and Women in Black comrades may have heard in the Gardens-words these kapos have doubtless heard in most motion pictures w/o it doing them any harm-or their sponsorship of fellow anti-Semites such as ISM, Gilad Atzmon, and Cindy Corrie, along with their advocacy of BDS from Israel?

What Ms. Sanders and her Israel-loathing allies are aiding and abetting are the true obscenities, not harmless words these crybabies hear or themselves utter every day.

The True Obscenities

Oh, Carol…did I hurt your tender feelings with my icky words? Did the world seem yucky? So you think that you were threatened? Funny, you didn’t think it was obscene when BAWIB &JVP; stood by smiling silently at other demonstrations when Arab orgs called for Jewish blood and Death to Israel. The fact that you thought it was OK to make families run the gauntlet of your hatred to enter the gardens is the true obscenity.I guess this makes me another Jew that is ashamed that JVP are Jews. When you look in the mirror don’t you see Jew-hatred staring back at you? Doesn’t THAT threaten you a bit? If not…you are creepier than I thought.

Had Some Words With WIB at Sat. Oakland demo.

Unfortunately the nefarious Carol Sanders wasn’t at the weekly demo. at the Grand Lake theater today. I don’t know if it’s stupidity, denial or something more insidious but they really come off as not understanding why the pro-Israel community despises them so much. Or why they are regarded as being part of the anti-Israel agenda. Even now they insist they are not anti-Israel or pro-hamas and fancy themselves as being an “anti-militirism” group. yeah sure whatever! I hope they end up on the next gaza flotilla!
