An exhibition of drawings and models created by seventh- and eighth-grade students learning architecture at Brandeis Hillel Day School will be on display 1:30 to 3 p.m. Monday, June 7 at the school’s Marin campus, 180 N. San Pedro Road in San Rafael.
The students created a synagogue for an Abayudaya village in their elective class, titled “Sustainability Studio.” The project is a hypothetical complex serving roughly 1,500 Jews living in nearly 80 villages scattered around Mbale, one of the largest towns in southeastern Uganda.
The Abayudaya complex project developed after Rabbi Gershom Sizomu, first chief rabbi of Uganda who serves the congregation there, shared his vision with Brandeis teacher and architect Laurie Friedman.
