MK attacked for being on Gaza-bound ship

Member of Knesset Hanin Zoabi found herself under attack in Israel’s parliament because she took part in the flotilla that was en route to Gaza. Fears of violence against her by other MKs led the Knesset to grant her personal security guards.

Knesset member Anastassia Michaeli (of the Yisrael Beiteinu party) chased Zoabi (a Balab party member) at the June 2 Knesset meeting in an attempt to keep her from speaking, and a scuffle broke out at the podium. Other MKs tried to separate the two women, and eventually Michaeli was removed from the hall.

Each MK was allotted one minute to speak, but Zoabi took longer because of the many disruptions by other MKs.  Zoabi said she agreed to participate in the flotilla because it was a “political, human and moral mitzvah to oppose the imprisonment of 1.5 million people.” — ynetnews.com

Teaching by Example

Hanin Zoabi deserves some small praise for teaching by example.  By telling the Knesset that her act was a mitzvah she was s teaching by example the meaning of the difficult-to-translate word “chutzpah”.  Or, in English, “insolence”.
