Filmmakers to appear at CJM screening of ‘Rollers’

Follow j. on   and

The Contemporary Jewish Museum in San Francisco will host a screening of “Holy Rollers” on June 9, followed by a discussion with the director and screenwriter.

The provocative drama, an official selection at Sundance, stars Jesse Eisenberg as Sam Gold, a young Chassid from Brooklyn who innocently becomes involved in international drug trafficking. The story is inspired by true events in the late 1990s when Chassids were recruited as drug mules to smuggle ecstasy from Europe into the United States. The story chronicles Sam’s struggle between his intense religious background and the seductive pull of the secular world.

After the screening, director Kevin Asch and screenwriter Antonio Macia will answer audience questions and discuss the film.

The event, co-presented by the San Francisco Jewish Film Festival, starts at 7 p.m. Tickets are $10. The museum will be closed. For information, visit http://www.thecjm.org or call (415) 665-7800.
