Jerusalem police received a break in one of the synagogue-fires cases that have shrouded the capital in mystery over the past week. A 15-year-old girl admitted to starting a blaze that damaged a shul’s ark and curtain in the Romema neighborhood on May 1.

According to police, the girl told investigators that she had started the fire as an act of revenge directed toward haredis who had been harassing her in the neighborhood, although police stressed that she did not mean in a sexual manner.

The girl said she found the synagogue door open and, after entering the building and starting the fire, fled the scene.

While her admission sheds light on one of three recent synagogue fires in Jerusalem over the past week, police did not tie her actions to the other two fires and said the investigation regarding those blazes was ongoing. — jpost.com
