Hundreds of Israelis left Egypt’s Sinai Peninsula this week after being warned to do so immediately. Israel’s Counter-Terrorism Bureau issued the warning on the evening of April 13, citing “concrete information” that terrorists were planning to kidnap Israelis.
By mid-morning April 14, about 430 of 650 Israelis known to be in Sinai had returned home, a police spokesman told the Israeli daily Ha’aretz. In a pre-Passover release, the bureau called Sinai a travel destination with a “very high and concrete threat.” — jta
