Ginsberg tribute

Following a public tribute to deceased poet Allen Ginsberg at San Francisco’s Congregation Emanu-El Sunday, Jeff Allen shows friend Ariel oranges floating in the synagogue fountain . The fruit, eaten after the ceremony, did not symbolize anything in particular but was considered by organizers from Emanu-El and City Lights Bookstore to be beautiful and easily consumed. More than 2,000 attended the memorial for the famed Beat poet who was born a Jew but lived and died a Buddhist. Among those present was Pulitzer Prize-winning poet Gary Snyder , a friend of Ginsberg’s for 40 years.
