Aquatics classes start in Marin April 7

Aquatics classes began at the Marin Jewish Community Center pools with Hydrofit Water Aerobics at 9 a.m. Monday, April 7.

The class, which offers a workout without danger of injury from impact, continues Mondays, Wednesdays and Fridays for six weeks at a cost of $108 for members, $144 for nonmembers.

Water Aerobics will meet at 6 p.m. Tuesdays and Thursdays beginning April 15. Cost is $78 for members and $105 for nonmembers.

Pre- and Postnatal Water Aerobics will begin at 5 p.m. Tuesday, April 15 and continue Tuesdays and Thursdays for seven weeks. Cost is $78 for members and $104 for nonmembers.

Low-Back Water Exercise classes are offered at 8 a.m. Saturdays beginning April 12 and at 1:30 p.m. Tuesdays and Thursdays beginning April 15. Cost for seven weeks of weekday classes is $78 for members, $104 for nonmembers. Cost for seven weeks of weekend classes is $42 for members, $56 for nonmembers.

Holocaust memorial features speakers

Auschwitz survivor Linda Breder will speak at a Yom HaShoah memorial at 2:30 p.m. Sunday, April 20 at Sonoma State University, Rohnert Park.

Joining her will be Ernest James, retired U.S. Army major. While serving with the 238th Combat Battalion of the U.S. Army, he helped liberate the concentration camp Dora/Mittelbau.

Dan Bornstein, a child of survivors, also will speak, and the Vuillaume String Quartet will provide a musical program. Susanne Batzdorff will read poetry. Freddi Bloom will present the traditional memorial prayer.

Jewish day school and local Sunday school students will exhibit artwork expressing their feelings about the Holocaust.

Sonoma JFCS hires a new director

Licensed marriage family and children's counselor Diana Altschuler has been appointed branch director of Jewish Family and Children's Services' Sonoma County operation.

Since moving to Sonoma County seven years ago, Altschuler has chaired the Sonoma County Tobacco Control Coalition and been a member of the Sonoma County Health Initiative Committee, the Sonoma County Juvenile Justice Oversight Committee, the West County Regional LEA Medi-Cal Committee and the Sonoma County Community Health Partnership Steering Committee.

Her plans for JFCS include expanding regional counseling and support services, offering a wider range of community education programs and increasing services for the elderly.
