Herts, who has been a member of Temple Beth Sholom's board of directors since 1949 and has served as president of the East Bay Synagogue Council, has coordinated Jewish Welfare Federation campaigns, chaired the Religious School's Principal's Council and initiated the Israel Bonds dinner at Beth Sholom in San Leandro
