Jewish student groups reject boycott call

Five Jewish student groups at U.C. Irvine have rejected a call to boycott the university over campus anti-Semitism.

In a letter issued Feb. 22, the groups said, “As students at UCI, we respectfully disagree with the ZOA’s position that students should stop attending UCI, and that donors should stop supporting the many programs at the school.”

The Zionist Organization of America last week accused the university of enabling bigotry and violating civil rights in the wake of a speech at U.C. Irvine by Israel’s ambassador to the U.S., Michael Oren, which was interrupted repeatedly by protesters.

Meanwhile, in a letter to the U.C. Irvine chancellor this week, Assemblyman Chuck DeVore (R–Orange County) urged that the Muslim Student Union be banned from the campus. — jta
