More than 600 participants flocked to Mitzvah Day at the Oshman Family Jewish Community Center in Palo Alto on Jan. 18, even with the cancellation of several outdoor projects due to inclement weather.

Volunteers knit scarves and blankets, made crafts for hospitalized children, created cards for U.S. and Israeli soldiers, collected hundreds of books for underprivileged students, and packaged toiletries for shelter residents — to name just a few activities.

 

“There’s nothing better to do on a rainy day than come to the JCC and do these wonderful projects,” said Jane-Rachel Schonbrun, the OFJCC’s adult community.
