The Koret Foundation recently approved another $1 million grant to strengthen Jewish Family and Children’s Services’ capacity to offer support to clients hit hard by the economic crisis.
The S.F.-based JFCS will oversee the efforts for the three JFCS agencies in the Bay Area as they respond to a growing number of families and individuals that are coping with job loss, house foreclosure and other financial setbacks.
In December 2008, the Koret Foundation gifted $1 million to reactivate the Jewish Emergency Assistance Network, which coordinates services among JFCS agencies with community organizations and synagogues.
In combination with more than $800,000 given to local food programs and food banks since the economic downturn began, the new grant brings Koret’s investment in Bay Area financial emergency services to roughly $2.8 million.
