On-the-go Torahs ready for war zones

Follow j. on   and

A group of Jewish chaplains is writing six small Torah scrolls that can easily travel with chaplains to war zones. The JWB Jewish Chaplains Council says the lightweight Torahs will supplement the 60 Torahs that are at bases around the world but are too large for a chaplain to carry.

The first of the six, not yet finished, was shown off at the Jewish Federations of North America’s General Assembly in Washington on Nov. 10.

The Chaplains Council said there are more than 10,000 Jewish men and women currently serving on active duty in the U.S. Armed Forces. — jta
