More than 1,000 residents of Marin are expected to convene Oct. 25 for the Founding Convention of the Marin Organizing Committee, a countywide coalition of religious institutions and nonprofits.

Congregation Kol Shofar of Tiburon will co-chair the convention. Kol Shofar will be joined by Congregation Rodef Sholom, St. Anselm’s, St. Raphael’s, Fairfax Community Church and the Canal Welcome Center.

Rabbi Lavey Derby of Kol Shofar said he expects the event and the organization to send a powerful message to Marin County elected officials that its citizens are organized and committed to improving the community. Some of its target issues are transportation, poverty and health care.

A handful of state, county and local elected officials are expected to be in attendance.

The convention will run from 2 to 4 p.m. in the San Rafael High School gymnasium, 185 Mission Ave., San Rafael. For more information or to RSVP, contact Meredith Parnell at (415) 479-3441 or [email protected].
