It wasn’t  exactly “Extreme Makeover: Home Edition,” but volunteers from two East Bay synagogues made one Oakland homeowner extremely happy.

In partnership with Rebuilding Together Oakland, 40 members of Piedmont’s Kehilla Community Synagogue and Oakland’s Temple Beth Abraham turned out to repaint, replumb and rewire the Oakland home of Alberta Reed. The work was done over the last two weekends in April.

Formerly known as Sukkot in April, the program is in its sixth year. It is part of the  Rebuilding Together organization, which helps needy families with home repair.

“This is concrete tikkun olam,” said Kehilla coordinator Alex Madonik. “We’re just happy to make a difference.”
