Do you want to help others — but don’t know where to begin?
As part of National Volunteer Month, the Jewish Community Relations Council and the JCC of San Francisco will be holding a volunteer recruitment event April 29 to match up a wide variety of skill sets with local volunteer opportunities. Volunteers might be needed to help with tasks such as home repair, computers, Web design, driving, organizing meals and legal assistance.
However, Linda Frank, co-chair of the JCRC’s Poverty Initiative and one of the event’s coordinators, noted that no matter what skills you have, they will be needed somewhere.
“The only skill you really need to have is time and the willingness and desire to give,” Frank said, adding that agencies need volunteers more than ever to augment budget cuts and greater demand for services during the recession.
Attendees are asked to bring unopened toiletries, nonperishable food, and new or slightly used books to benefit San Francisco Connect, the San Francisco Food Bank and the Jewish Coalition for Literacy.
The free event will take place 3:30 to 6:30 p.m. April 29 at the JCCSF, 3200 California St., S.F. For more information, visit www.jcrc.org or contact Margee Churchon at [email protected] or (415) 957-1551 ext. 119.
