A group of San Francisco State University students will perform the Yiddish-to-English comedy “The Fools of Chelm and Their History” for free at 2 p.m. April 19.

The play follows a “town of fools” in Chelm, Poland, as they go to war without purpose then rebuild their fallen community. Their performance also includes klezmer music.

Sponsored by the S.F. State theater arts and Jewish studies departments and the Koret Foundation, the free performance will take place in the Studio Theatre in the Creative Arts Building, 1756 Holloway Ave., S.F. For more information, call (415) 338-1341 or visit http://www.creativearts.sfsu.edu.

There will also be a performance of the show May 3 at 3 p.m. at the Contemporary Jewish Museum, 736 Mission St., S.F. It will be free with museum admission.
