Bernard Samuel passed away on June 17, 2008.

Born on Shabbat Shira 1922 in Czerna, Czechoslovakia.

Taken in 1943 to the Labor Camp Tiz per Harem, Bernard was enslaved with a brother and several cousins.

During that time Bernard saved lives by doing the hard labor of others along with his own when they did not have the strength or stamina.

After the war, Bernard married Miriam Ausch Forkos and remained with her for 63 years.

Bernard loved and supported Israel and was a devoted member of Beth Jacob Congregation in Oakland.

Bernard is predeceased by his sister, Chana and brothers Yaakov Hersh and Leo.  He leaves behind his wife, Miriam, daughters Helen, Sandy and Nancy, son-in-law Brad Kurland, his grandchildren, Adena and Joel (West) and Akiva, Talya and Noam (Kurland) and one brother, Avraham of Haifa.

A man of action and strong principles, a devoted husband, father and Saba. May his memory be a blessing.
