Peninsula preschool gets a ‘playscape’

Follow j. on   and

The blustery weather didn’t stop some 25 families from gathering at Foster City’s Chai Preschool on Jan. 25 for a bit of outdoor fun.

In an effort to create a play area with a more natural feel than the traditional playground, Chai families constructed a “playscape” that included a wooden bridge surrounded by cobblestones, a well, a flower garden and a “cave” made of willow trees.

The project was spearheaded by Chai parent Emily Scheinman and was planned by other preschool parents.

Chai Preschool director Esty Marcus noted that the project is far from over: Next, the school will install an eco-friendly waterfall, decorative tiles with the names of the children who helped install the playscape, and a hollowed-out redwood tree trunk for children to hide in, among other features.
