Follow j. on   and

A local Jewish preschool has started a free, city-sponsored afternoon program for young learners. The Preschool for All program takes place from 2 p.m. to 4:30 p.m. weekdays at the Shalom School in San Francisco.

Preschool for All, which is under the auspices of San Francisco’s First Five program, provides activities ranging from creative movement to “wild science” with Tree Frog Treks. It also provides opportunities for reading and speaking in Hebrew and Russian.

The program is open to children of all religions and backgrounds who will be 4 years old by Dec. 2 of the year for which they are applying. The First Five program will provide a monthly stipend to eligible families who live in San Francisco that covers the cost of the program.

The Shalom School is located at 862 28th Ave., S.F. For more information, call (415) 831-8399.
