ADL New England director quits
Andrew Tarsy, the New England regional director of the Anti-Defamation League, resigned his post last week.
The Boston Globe described Tarsy's resignation as "the culmination of a months-long dispute with the national organization over its failure to fully acknowledge the Armenian genocide of 1915."
Tarsy would not elaborate on his departure, but his supporters said it was the result of his rift with the national director of the ADL, Abraham Foxman, over the Armenian issue. — jta
Muslim man protects Jews
A Muslim man is being praised for his effort to break up a hate-fueled attack on Jews on a New York City subway train last week.
Hassan Askari, 20, intervened when a group started beating Walter Adler, 23, and three friends. The altercation erupted after Adler and his friends said "Happy Chanukah" to a group yelling "Merry Christmas" on the Brooklyn-bound train.
Eight men and two women have pleaded not guilty to assault, menacing and other charges in the case. Prosecutors have said the charges could be upgraded to hate crimes. — ap
