Jerry and Arlene Kaplan of Walnut Creek and Sue Shapiro of Cerritos announced the engagement of their children, Melissa Shapiro and Randy Kaplan. A July 2007 wedding is planned in Pacific Palisades. Ms. Shapiro, who teaches in Los Angeles, received her BA from Fresno State University and her MA from National University. Mr. Kaplan is a graduate of Lewis and Clark College and is a clinical research associate and office manager at the John Wayne Cancer Institute in Santa Monica.
