Morton Kornreich, former UJA head

Morton Kornreich, who held top posts at numerous Jewish institutions, died March 27 at age 82 in Boca Raton, Fla.

Kornreich became chairman of the UJA-Federation New York shortly after the United Jewish Appeal's New York branch merged with the Federation of Jewish Philanthropies in 1986. From 1988 to 1990, he was chairman of the United Jewish Appeal. He was also vice president of the American Jewish Committee and chaired its Koppelman Institute on American Jewish-Israeli Relations.

Kornreich, a 1949 graduate of the University of Pennsylvania, became partners with his twin brother, Matthew, at the Manhattan insurance brokerage their father founded in 1917. — jta
