Katherine "Kay" Abel in Reno, NV on August 28, 2006 at age 91 from complications of Alzheimer's. Kay was born in Utica, NY. Her father, Abraham and mother, Anna immigrated to the U.S. from Romania. She graduated from Columbia University as a dental hygienist and worked as a dental hygienist for the Utica Public School System. In 1942 she met her husband, Nathaniel "Nat", who was serving in the Army at Aberdeen Proving Grounds. After WWII Kay became a stay at home mother in Utica, NY where she helped found Temple Emanuel and the congregation's Sisterhood. Kay and her husband moved to San Francisco in 1960. In 1962 they started the Abel Wholesale Co. of San Francisco which distributed office and school supplies throughout Northern California for 40 years. Kay was predeceased by her husband, Nat, who passed away last year after 62 years of marriage. She is survived by her sons, David and Michael Abel, and two grandsons, Benjamin Abel and Samuel Abel USN. Funeral services were held at Hills Of Eternity Memorial Park Chapel, Colma. In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations to the San Francisco Jewish Home or the Israel Emergency Fund of the San Francisco Jewish Community Federation.

Nathan "Nat" Frankel passed away peacefully on September 4, 2006 at the age of 88. He is survived by his beloved wife Inge after 61 years of marriage; his four children; six granddaughters; and two great granddaughters. Nat was raised in Oakland and Piedmont. He was an attorney and civic activist. Funeral services were held on Sunday, September 10. Donations in memoriam may be sent to Temple Sinai in Oakland or your favorite charity.

Jean Goodman, aged 96 years, on September 3rd 2006. Wife of the late Charles Goodman. Loving mother of Danny (and Audree) Goodman and Gail (and Marc) Berman. Adoring grandmother of Jae Berman, Casey (and Lillian) Berman and Todd (and Inna) Goodman. Proud great-grandmother of Mya and Lia Goodman. Jean was a devoted volunteer at Marshall Hale Hospital for many years. She was also active at San Francisco Senior Center at Aquatic Park. She will be greatly missed by her family and friends. Funeral services were held on September 6th at Eternal Home Cemetery in Colma. The family requests that donations be made to the Jewish Home, 302 Silver Ave., San Francisco, CA 94112.

Jerry Gottlieb lived life with a joke for every occasion. Even while fighting brain cancer, he kept the people around him laughing. Jerry passed away quietly on Sunday, September 3. Facing his illness, he continued to live his life displaying quiet strength, grace, and heart. Born on September 12, 1929 in New York, Jerry was the youngest of five children born to Grace and Sam Gottlieb. He is survived by his wife of 46 years, Ruth Gottlieb of Burlingame; brother, Henry Gottlieb of New York City; two sisters, Ruth Fisch of Tampa, Florida and Pearl Malkin of Larkspur; two sons Adam Gottlieb of Sacramento, and Geoffrey Gottlieb of Santa Monica, and daughter-in-law Elizabeth Nelson Gottlieb. He is predeceased by his brother, Bernard. Services and interment took place in New York. Donations may be made to the Mills-Peninsula Hospital Health Services or Peninsula Temple Sholom in Burlingame.

Shirley Kassman, nee Sokol, 86, beloved wife of the late Mayer; devoted mother of Sherry (Herbie) Katz, Russell, Martin Kassman; loving grandmother of Tarya Mitchell and Vanessa Many; dear sister of the late Leonard Sokol.
