Call for protest of anti-Israel rally
Pro-Israel activists are preparing to make a presence at a major rally 11 a.m. Saturday, Aug. 12 at Civic Center Plaza (corner of Polk and Grove) in San Francisco.
The rally, sponsored by ANSWER, calls for an end to U.S. aid for Israel and the right of return for Palestinians, as well as an end to occupation and war. S.F. Voice for Israel is urging counter-protesters to meet at 10:30 a.m. Information: www.sfvoiceforisrael.org.
South Bay holding Israel Action event
The South Bay is holding an "Israel Action Day" for the whole family.
The event will feature several activities to show support for Israel. Israel Action Day will be from 4 p.m. to 6 p.m. Sunday, Aug. 13 at the Addison-Penzak JCC's Levy Family Campus auditorium, 14855 Oka Road, Los Gatos. Information: (408) 357-7501 or (408) 357-7504.
DNA project debuts at Los Gatos JCC
A worldwide DNA Shoah project, the first of its kind, will make its Bay Area debut Sunday, Aug. 13 in Los Gatos.
The goal of the project is to establish a genetic database of survivors in an effort to identify persons lost during the Holocaust. The project is also likely to reunite orphans with surviving relatives.
The South Bay Holocaust Survivors Group and the Jewish Federation of Silicon Valley are sponsoring the event in which DNA will be collected from first, second and third generation survivors.
Kosher snacks and refreshments will be provided as geneticists Syd Mandelbaum, Dr. Michael Hammer and Howard Cash present their project.
The event will take place at the Levy Family Campus at the Addison-Penzak JCC, 14855 Oka Road, Los Gatos, from 10:30 a.m. to 1 p.m. Call (408) 268-6865 or (408) 218-7654 to RSVP.
