'Pot shot' lands anchor in hot water

The Anti-Defamation League wrote a letter to MSNBC personality Keith Olbermann, taking the television host to task for using a Nazi "Seig Heil salute."

Olbermann, host of "Countdown with Keith Olbermann," reportedly did the salute while holding up a mask of Fox News commentator Bill O'Reilly.

"While we understand that your aim is to entertain your audience by taking pot shots at Mr. O'Reilly, your repeated use of the Nazi salute has resulted in many complaints from our constituents, including Holocaust survivors and their families who find the use of this gesture offensive and repugnant in any context," the letter said.

Israeli artist fighting intolerance

For eight years, Israeli artist Bela Gold has been collecting letters, postcards and passports from Eastern European minorities and has incorporated the text into a collection of prints in the exhibit "Silence."

The work is inspired by a drive to combat intolerance by reminding people of the violence that was inflicted on these minorities in the last century.

The exhibit is supported by Universidad Autónoma de Mexico in collaboration with the Anti-Defamation League in San Francisco. The works are on display through Sept. 1 in the Gallery at of the General Consulate of Mexico, 532 Folsom St., S.F. Information: www.consulmexsf.com.
